Meeting Recap

Wow, we really had some amazing show and tell at our last meeting!

Some dates to remember:
the end of January (the 30th) is the day your challenge quilt needs to be finished to be considered for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Finished means having the quilting and binding finished for photographs that will be submitted to the show on the 31st.

Our next meeting will be at Dogwood Cocktail Cabin on the third Tuesday, December 16th, at 5pm. Come along for some holiday festivities!

Kayla brought along the quilt top for our COMQG QuiltCon charity quilt. After this was taken, I sewed on the borders, and it was sent along to Corni for quilting! We shouldn't have any trouble getting it in the mail in time for it to arrive in Austin by the deadline.

Hillary showed off her finished space invaders quilt. Her 'lightning-bolt-echo' quilting looks amazing!

Susan showed off her finished Starfall quilt. A bunch of us in the guild made this quilt, it has been so fun to see them all!

Another charity project! Susan distributed these block kits to members this fall, and has pieced together the top. Isn't it amazing!

Kristin brought along one of her QuiltCon show submissions and we were all blown away. It's gorgeous!

Sarah is working on her challenge quilt back, and it's all these gorgeous silk scarves. Can't wait to see what she comes up with!

Kayla made this t-shirt quilt for a cousin, and look at that awesome back!

Kayla's bed quilt, obviously totally amazing!

WIP Wednesday: QuiltCon Charity Quilt

Welcome to the series where we feature works in progress by guild members. Enjoy!

Today we're featuring the charity quilt challenge for QuiltCon. Check out this for more information.

It all started with the color palette given by the challenge. We ordered a bundle from The Intrepid Thread to get us started:

The challenge was to use an alternate grid (this concept is covered thoroughly in this MQG blog post), which is fun, but we also thought it would be fun to use blocks of different sizes. In the past we've done these group projects with random block sizes, but this time we chose certain sizes, but there's three sizes. Blocks will finish at 12 inches, 8.5 inches, and 5 inches. Based on this idea, Kayla drew up this sketch that is just amazing! We are using the cool colors (grey, blue, greens), for the large blocks and the teeny ones, and the warm colors (red, orange, yellow, purples) for the medium blocks. It should look great and really striking! All of our blocks will be a house of some kind.

then we cut up fabric for bundles, and have been distributing those bundles these last couple of weeks. If you haven't gotten a bundle and still want to make a block, contact Kayla. Bear in mind the due date for the blocks is coming up on the 20th of this month.

Some people have already made their blocks! We can't wait to see how they all come together.

Meeting Recap

We had a great meeting, as usual! Plenty of time for chatting and plenty of space for sewing!

We discussed a little bit of business:
  • Members should have received an email that has information about how to nominate someone (or yourself) for a board position. Our new board will start in January, but having nominations now and elections in October will allow us some overlap and time to plan for next year.
  • We shared thank you letters we have received from charities that received quilts from us last year.
  • Stay tuned here and to your email for plans for the September 5th Tuesday sewing evening.

Most of us worked away on quilt bindings, but Crystal was working on an American Doll dress from a class she's taking.

And Kristin wow-ed us all with her beautiful quilts in progress that she was working on. Take a look!
