Ohio Star Made Modern!
Theme
We have chosen a theme for our next challenge! Our idea was to take a traditional quilt block and all use that block as the theme for our modern quilt. We all put one idea on a slip of paper in a hat, picked one, and the Ohio Star block was chosen! It is expected that this block and theme will comprise at least 25% of your quilt. You are not limited in the color, the size of your block, or the fabric.
Due dates
We hope to display quilts at Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in July 2014. To accommodate the quilt show's deadlines and group expectations, quilts will need to be finished by March 1st, 2014. Check the Quilt Show's website for their display requirements for quilts.
Ohio Star Block
The Ohio Star block is a traditional star made up of quarter square triangles and squares. Find a pattern for the basic block here. Or use your favorite search engine; there's plenty of tutorials out there.
Inspiration/Ideas/Patterns
Any internet search, or chat with a fellow guild member will lead you to tons of ideas for quilts and patterns. Here are a few that jumped out to me when I was searching. The Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild had a similar challenge recently, and their work was beautiful and inspiring! I found one blog post by Faith at Fresh Lemons Quilts with photos of many of their quilts. Or visit their Flickr site. Heather Jones from the Cincinnati MQG published a pattern for her beautiful, bold-colored quilt, available here
