Meetings/Potlucks/Fun!

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!
So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did.

We had a couple potlucks, a pretty horrible performance at trivia at the Lot :), a meetup in the park at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, and a meeting at a brewery. We love the shops that host us for meetings during the rest of the year, but it's nice to give them a break from hosting us during their busy time, and enjoy some other meeting places around Central Oregon.

Starting in June, Hillary did a demonstration of a set-in circle technique.

Susan hosted a potluck with a great show and tell. This was right after Quilter's Affair, so we got to see some projects from classes people took.

Sonja hosted a taco feed at her house, and show and tell was lovely in her backyard under the shade of the big trees.
Here Kayla's asking for quilting advice for her stitch and flip quilt.

Kat made this with a jelly roll!

Patricia just wow-ed us all with her quilt and her free-motion quilting.

Sarah is working on her cool colors challenge quilt. How's yours coming along?

Scrappy Stash Buster

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!
So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did.

Starting early this year, Christy hosted six Scrappy Stash Buster meetings.

The idea was to work on the Half-square triangle Block of the Month tutorial by Jeni Baker. Christy gave us a loose plan, but everyone kind of did what they pleased: some people made the whole quilt, some made a few blocks, some didn't make it at all and just came to the meetings to hang out and chat.

This project was really fun. It used up some scraps, it was fun to gather for some fun sewing,

There was a lot of cutting and fabric choosing...

...and some gorgeous finished blocks...

..and some people's turned out so cool!...

Charity Projects

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!
So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did.
Making quilts for charity is something that is really important to our guild. We love to pass along the quilt love.

This summer we have donated three quilts: one to the Ronald McDonald House that was raffled off at their auction at the Ghost tree invitational, and two to Camp Erin campers.

This summer we've been working on our charity challenge quilt for QuiltCon 2016 in Pasadena!
Here's all the information about the challenge:

Kristin offered to take the lead on this group project of improv with intent. A bunch of guild members made feathers with her tutorial:

The blocks have all been collected and now we'll start on the fun process of putting the top and back together before sending it to our amazing member Corni who will quilt this one for us.

In July we sent away two quilts to Camp Erin, a camp for grieving children. Unfortunately I only grabbed photos of our blue stars quilt. I hope these quilts brought joy, comfort, and love to the campers who got to use them and take them home from camp this summer.

COMQG Summer Rewind Post 2

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!
So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did.

Today it's the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.

We had an informal MQG Meetup in the park. We had members from Seattle, Eugene, Portland, Corvallis, Central Oregon, and Kansas City MQGs come by. Look for this to be a regular feature for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in the future. It was so nice to spend a few minutes relaxing in the park in the shade with fellow MQG members.

Of course, seeing our Inspired by Gee's Bend challenge quilts hanging on Sisters Drug was a special honor. Our quilts looked amazing and we received so many compliments.

And finally, Tula Pink's quilts were hung at Five Pine lodge on Sunday, and it was a pretty wonderful experience, seeing the quilts hung so beautifully in with the trees and wildflowers!

COMQG Summer Rewind Post 1

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!
So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did.

First up is a recap of some shows that happened in August with COMQG guild members:

We displayed our Inspired by Gee's Bend challenge quilts. There's just nothing better than an outdoor quilt show!

on the left is Lindsey's, right is Susan's.

Left to right: Susan's, Kayla's, Sarah's.
Thanks Kayla for the pictures!

Another fun thing a couple of us did was participate in the Black to White Challenge for a special exhibit at Quilt Knit Stitch in Portland a couple weeks back.

Here's Sarah's picture of someone admiring her beautiful quilt

Quilters at Craft

We had a great meeting last night in the Central Oregon sunshine along the Deschutes River at Craft Kitchen and Brewery.

Some things discussed at the meeting:

--Remember that next month we resume normal meeting schedule so we'll be at Quiltworks on September 1 from 5pm to 8pm for our First Tuesday meeting.

--Susan has organized a retreat for us in Sunriver! Check your email for all the details and how to RSVP.

--Coming up in October, our Gee's Bend challenge quilts will be shown in the Quiltworks Gallery. To show our support and involvement, please plan to attend the gallery reception on First Friday from 5 to 7pm at Quiltworks on October 2nd

We collected the last of the improv feather blocks using Kristin's tutorial! They all look so great! These will go into our QuiltCon charity quilt for display at QuiltCon 2016 in Pasadena, and we will donate the quilt to a local charity.

Meeting Reminder

We have our third tuesday meeting on Tuesday the 18th (that's tomorrow!).

Since during the summer we like to take advantage of the nice weather, we're going to be meeting at Craft Kitchen and Brewery (http://www.craftkitchenandbrewery.com/) at 5pm. We have a reserved table outside on their beautiful patio with the river view. They also have happy hour with some great food specials until 6, so come early to take advantage of that.

Bring along: your finished feather block for the QuiltCon Charity Challenge quilt, some hand work if you want to stitch and enjoy the view, yourself!

See you there!
