COMQG Summer Rewind Post 1

We've been having so much fun this summer and not updating the blog much!

So we're going to have recaps all week long of some of the fun things we did. 

First up is a recap of some shows that happened in August with COMQG guild members:

Mt Bachelor Quilters Guild Quilt Show in August

We displayed our Inspired by Gee's Bend challenge quilts. There's just nothing better than an outdoor quilt show!

Another fun thing a couple of us did was participate in the Black to White Challenge for a special exhibit at Quilt Knit Stitch in Portland a couple weeks back.

Quilters at Craft

We had a great meeting last night in the Central Oregon sunshine along the Deschutes River at Craft Kitchen and Brewery.

Some things discussed at the meeting:

--Remember that next month we resume normal meeting schedule so we'll be at Quiltworks on September 1 from 5pm to 8pm for our First Tuesday meeting.

--Susan has organized a retreat for us in Sunriver! Check your email for all the details and how to RSVP.

--Coming up in October, our Gee's Bend challenge quilts will be shown in the Quiltworks Gallery. To show our support and involvement, please plan to attend the gallery reception on First Friday from 5 to 7pm at Quiltworks on October 2nd

We collected the last of the improv feather blocks using Kristin's tutorial! They all look so great! These will go into our QuiltCon charity quilt for display at QuiltCon 2016 in Pasadena, and we will donate the quilt to a local charity. 

Meeting Reminder

We have our third tuesday meeting on Tuesday the 18th (that's tomorrow!). 

Since during the summer we like to take advantage of the nice weather, we're going to be meeting at Craft Kitchen and Brewery (http://www.craftkitchenandbrewery.com/) at 5pm. We have a reserved table outside on their beautiful patio with the river view. They also have happy hour with some great food specials until 6, so come early to take advantage of that. 

Bring along: your finished feather block for the QuiltCon Charity Challenge quilt, some hand work if you want to stitch and enjoy the view, yourself!

Potluck Tonight

It's the Third Tuesday and we're having a potluck tonight! Check your email for the full information about location and what to bring.

Some announcements:

We're starting work on the QuiltCon charity quilt! A few of you got fabric for the blocks from Kristin, but I have the rest of the bundles to pass out. The turn around on this one is quite short: blocks are due back to Kristin or Lindsey by the third Tuesday in August. We're trying to get this one done before we're all in the middle of holiday sewing rush. This quilt will be shown at QuiltCon in Pasadena in Feb. 2016, and will be given to Ronald McDonald house for auctioning in their fundraising efforts.

Meeting schedule for August: August 4th, first Tuesday, Tacos at Sonja's. August 18th, Third Tuesday. we'll either meet at the park or at a nice outdoor patio. stay tuned for details.

Other MQG events in August: Quilt knit Stitch is in Portland August 13-15. Sarah and I both have quilts in the Black To White (BTW) exhibit. I'm so excited to see it!

Seattle is hosting the PNW MQG Meetup August 20-23. I wish I could go! This sounds like a fantastically awesome time! They have some great activities and swaps planned. http://seattlemodernquiltguild.com/pnw-mqg-meetup/

And, a quick recap of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Our exhibit looked wonderful hanging there on Sisters Drug. I am always so proud of our group for putting together such a great group of quilts. I'm also always so happy that we make the extra effort to choose a challenge that makes our quilts look cohesive and have that visual impact. It really draws people in! I'm so! excited for our cool colors challenge for next year's show. Remember, the quilt show deadline has shifted so our finished quilts for that challenge, if you'd like to be included in the group exhibit at the show, will be due October 1st. 

We had a meetup in the park on the day of the show, and it was wonderful! We had many of our guild members attend, as well as members from Portland MQG, Seattle MQG, Corvallis MQG, Eugene MQG, Silicon Valley MQG, and Kansas City MQG. People came and went throughout the time, but I think overall we had about 25 people come join us. What a great time that was! I hope to do this every year. It was so nice to relax in the park and chat with MQG friends!

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show --Come Join Us!

Saturday, July 11th is the 40th Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.

Come join the Central Oregon Modern Quilt Guild for some social and relaxing time in the park. We're meeting in the Village Green Park from 11am to 1pm on Saturday. Village Green Park is on Washington and Elm, just two blocks south of Cascade Ave.

Village Green Park is short walking distance from the show. We'll have a blue pop-up, a bunch of chairs and quilts for sitting in the shade. We'll have refreshing lemonade and water. Bring your lunch or just bring yourself.

See you at the show! Don't forget to look around the show for our special exhibit, our 2015 challenge, inspired by the quilts of Gee's Bend.

June: no third tuesday meeting, happy hour for fifth Tuesday.

--Volunteer at Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show. Thank you volunteers! We are all now registered for our volunteer shifts. Now all we have to do is show up at our allotted time and patrol the block where our quilts are hung. We don't know this area yet and may not know until the day of the show.

Show and Tell.

--Laurie finished the binding on the Blue Stars quilt (A charity quilt for Camp Erin) and the quilt looks amazing! I just need to finish sewing on the label. 

Giveaways: we got a donation from the Cloth Pocket, so we'll give those away at this meeting.
