Members Share Their Space!

Welcome to a new series where COMQG members share their sewing space. Enjoy!

Sarah has a small room, but she loves the openness in the middle for spreading out a work in progress or piecing. Here's a panorama of her space.

Her new fabric storage. She has bins for scraps, and larger pieces folded on the shelves, mostly organized by color.

And finally, her brand new (to her) awesome Bernina sewing machine! She's already been working on some really cool embroidery and sewing projects with it.

WIP Wednesday

Every Wednesday, we share pictures of works in progress by guild members. Enjoy!

In December, Erin, Lindsey, and Shannon took a class from Stacy at BJ's Quiltbasket. We learned how to use the Hex N More ruler and made the Tasty table runner by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts.

Erin's runner in progress

Cute! half-hexes for the runner.

Shannon (on the left) has already finished quilting hers and was finishing the binding, Lindsey (on the right) is hand quilting hers.

Meeting Recap

We had a great meeting Tuesday night! We even had a couple of new people join us for this meeting. We love having guests!

We discussed some additional ideas for tutorials/discussions/sharing at upcoming meetings. Katy is compiling these ideas and coming up with a plan for when we'll have demos and discussions at upcoming meetings.

--splitting up into small groups and rotating stations during tutorials/demos. We could even use different parts of the shop to make it easier to hear and have more space.
--everyone wants to have a machine binding tutorial from Christy!
--discussion about labeling and documenting the quilts you make
--discussion about fabric storage and your sewing space at home. I was inspired by this idea and I'm going to start a new series on the blog about our members and their sewing spaces.
--discussion about how to sandwich/baste your quilts.
--discussion about what exactly is Modern Quilting.

Things we're looking forward to:

--COMQG Sew day this saturday! RSVP to Erin if you'd like to attend
--Seeing everyone's completed Riley Blake Challenge at our first meeting in February, Tuesday the 4th at 5pm at Quiltworks in Bend.
--Kayla is contacting all people who were nominated for Secretary and will be emailing the survey to guild members for voting.
--Kayla is looking into scheduling a Friday sew day at Bend Park and Recreation in March.
--Kayla is finalizing her plans for the blocks we'll all make for the COMQG banner. She'll be distributing fabric to use in February.
--Lindsey is receiving blocks for the Strawberry Churn Dash quilt for Camp Erin. If you got a kit, please return to her by the end of February.
--Susan is looking into planning a sew day for us in February. If you have any ideas, please contact her to help out.

If there's some activity you think would be fun for the guild to do: a sew day, a charity, a project, a challenge, then we'd love for you to take the lead on it! Please work with the board as you plan your activity.

COMQG 1/21/2014

We had a great meeting at the Stitchin' Post on Tuesday!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Every Wednesday, we share pictures of works in progress by guild members. Enjoy!

Shannon has done some really cool pixelated quilts. She starts with a simple image of an object: a pear, a heart, and uses the geometric app on her iPad for creating the pixelated image. She then creates the final quilt with squares, half square triangles, or quarter square circles or drunkards path blocks.

Here's Shannon's Pear from the 2 + 1 color challenge hanging at Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show last July

Here's Shannon's pixelated Heart. She made this for a February pink color challenge for the Mt Bachelor Quilters' Guild.

COMQG 1/20/2014, a set on Flickr.

We had a great sew night at BJ's! We all got so much done and had a great time chatting and sewing.
