My First Quilt

Welcome to a new blog series we're calling "My First Quilt". Members are going to share pictures and a little description of their first quilt ever. To start us off, Laurie is sharing her quilt. Laurie started quilting in fall 2011, and finished this quilt in 2012.

Here is a photo of my first quilt, which I call "Bubble Gum." It's a traditional sampler quilt that I made in my very first class, but even back then I had "modern tendencies." I choose the black and white to give the quilt a gritty, urban feel (the gray inner border reminds me of oil-stained asphalt) and added the pink to represent bubble gum -- the kind you find used on the pavement. I remember being so afraid to actually cut the fabric for the blocks, but once I started cutting and sewing, I was hooked.

Fifth Tuesday Happy Hour

We had so much fun last week, that we decided to do it again this week! We're meeting at 5pm at Worthy Brewing for a social, casual, happy hour food and beverages, on Tuesday, July 29th.

Look for us out on the patio, unless the weather isn't good, in which case we'll be inside.

See ya there!

Work In Progress: Stitch and Flip Improvisation

During Quilter's Affair, five of us from COMQG took a Stitch and Flip class from Jacquie Gering. It was so much fun!

Jacquie shows one of her samples.

Quilt Show!

It's Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show week! Everyone is busy with quilting activities, it's such a fun time! There are loads of fun classes going on at Quilter's Affair, and Festival of Classes, specials and events at other local quilt shops. Many of our members have more than one quilt in the show, many are volunteering at the show or in the Quilt Show Office, many are taking classes, or just enjoying the festivities all week long.

We wanted to highlight a couple of things that are happening on quilt show day itself: this Saturday, July 12th.

COMQG Group Exhibit
See our Ohio Star Made Modern exhibit on Sisters Drug on Cascade Ave. Yep, that's the 'main street' and we are in the same location as our challenge last year. We'd love to see you at our exhbit! Members have volunteered to be hostesses in our exhibit area all day, so we will have guild members there to tell you all about the quilts.

Just some of the quilts for the exhibit!

Let's Get Together!
A casual Modern Quilt Guild gathering will be at the Portland Modern Quilt Guild exhibit area. Come along at 2pm to gather with other MQG members, and there has been talk of enjoying a happy hour beverage with friends after. Come along at 2pm for all the fun!

See you at the show!

Quilter's Affair Class Work in Progress

On Wednesdays, we feature works in progress by guild members. Enjoy!

Susan and I (Lindsey) and a few other friends were lucky enough to take a quilting class from Angela Walters at Quilter's Affair this week! It was the best class!

My sample from the class.

Angela did a lot of sketching on the white board.

And her samples were lovely!

This week we're featuring guild member works-in-progress from the MQG Michael Miller fabric challenge. A few members brought their projects in progress to the meeting this week.
Enjoy!

Laurie's is so cool!

Susan has the top to her baby quilt done.

And Janice has made a couple of table runners.

A Beautiful Summer Night

Thanks to all for attending our potluck tonight! It was such a gorgeous summer evening to spend chatting with friends and enjoying good food on the patio.

Susan made this little quilt from a class.

Susan's working on the Park Bench quilt along.

Kristin is working on her Halloween fabric stash and made this gorgeous quilt...

...and this one!

And Kayla finished piecing the top for our banner! Doesn't it look great!?
