Work in Progress Wednesday, Starfall Quilt

On Wednesdays we feature works in progress by guild members. A few members are in clubs hosted by the Stitchin' Post, and we're featuring them this week and next.
The Stitchin' Post is offering a block of the month type club called $5 Scrap that lasts 4 months. The premise is that you buy the whole pattern, pay $5, and bring your finished blocks each month to get the next month's part of the pattern and another scrap from the scrap pile for your blocks. At the end of the 4 month timeframe, we will have enough blocks left to make the quilt top.

The quilt we're making is Starfall Quilt by Faith at Fresh Lemons Quilts. This quilt is made up of 4 different blocks, and uses so many scraps and just looks great and is so fun to make!

Modern Metallic

On Wednesdays we feature works in progress by guild members. Enjoy!

Quilter's Linen Metallic in (left to right) ash, grey, bone, and sand.

As a Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild, we were invited to submit quilts for the exhibit titled Modern Metallic for the Quilt! Knit! Stitch! quilt show in Portland, OR in August. One of the wonderful members of Portland Modern Quilt Guild organized sponsors for our challenge, and we were all thrilled to see that Robert Kaufman was providing challenge participants with fat quarters of their new metallics. Since everyone in COMQG loves Quilter's Linen, it didn't take us long to decide we would choose Quilter's Linen Metallic.

I was positively giddy to receive the fabric, and immediately got to cutting and preparing bundles to distribute to the 10 challenge participants from our guild. Even though the overall challenge didn't require using this fabric for the challenge, we decided as a guild to use the fabric in some way in our quilt that fits the theme of Modern Metallic. Stay tuned to this space for updates as we work on our challenges.

Submissions for the show are due May 2nd, and we will all be bringing our finished quilts to the COMQG meeting at Quiltworks for show and tell on May 6th.

Members Share their Space

Welcome to the blog series where we get a peek inside members' sewing spaces. Today is Jeanne's turn. Enjoy!
entrance to my 3rd floor sewing room

Here are a few pics of my ever changing sewing space.  I like change and am constantly changing my space to fit my current whim.  Currently I have two spots.  The 'real' one is on the 3rd floor of our house.

ironing area - 3rd floor

cutting area - 3rd floor

My husband I share a big loft type space.  He has his electronic stuff on one half and I have my sewing stuff on the other.  Along with an extra bed and mini refrig.  It was our son's room before he moved out for college and now 'life'.  I tend to not use this space much as my hubby is not up there much and I seem too far away and alone.

storage in closet - 3rd floor
(are you all noticing a pattern of cats in the sewing space pictures? I guess we all love our pets!)

sewing area in family room

Instead, I like to work downstairs in our family room.  I bought a little table at costco and put it behind our couch. I feel more connected down there. And can catch up on my shows while sewing.

cutting area on kitchen island

I use our big kitchen island for my cutting and ironing area.  So as you see, I've kind of taken over parts of most rooms in our house.

Thankfully, my hubby doesn't mind all the sewing stuff around.

WIP Wednesday: Toes in the Sand BOM and Park Bench BOM

On Wednesdays we feature works in progress from guild members. Today we're showing works in progress from the Toes in the Sand Block of the month pattern by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts.

Last year, Tamra of the Stitchin' Post taught this class. Each month, block-of-the-month'ers picked up fabric for the month's blocks, and we just picked up the last bundle of fabric this month. Tamra made the shop sample, and Shannon, Kayla, and Lindsey did the BOM through the Stitchin' Post, and Christy did it on her own. Some of us use the hashtag #toesinthesandQAL on Instagram and our photos were included in a recent post on Julie's blog!

Tamra's shop sample is just amazing:

Kayla's blocks are beautiful:

Christy already showed us her quilt blocks up on her design wall in her sewing space post:

Julie Herman has released a new BOM for this year. It is called Park Bench. Julie's sample is hanging at BJ's for a limited time, so get in and see the stunning, finished quilt in person! Starting this month, Shannon is teaching the Park Bench BOM at BJ's Quiltbasket. There is still space available, and it should be just as fun as the Toes in the Sand quilt was! Here are some of Shannon's class samples as she gets ready to teach. These blocks are just lovely!
